Sierry Petes - cowboy song (G. Gardner)

I still had the recording stuff out from a project so I did this one just to unwind. Only two chords!!!! I first heard this at Ramblin Jack Elliott's house at about 2am following a gig in SF. He recited it as a poem which is how it originally started out. He called Jack up to complain that in Jack's recorded version he got the names of the cowboys wrong. This was significant because the author, Gail Gardner was the son of a J. Gardner and so is Buster (son of) JiGs (Jigs meaning JG for J. Gardner). So the author is one of the cowboys in the song. There are some obscure cowboy terms in this song so here's a partial glossary: Rodeer camp - roundup camp for gathering up calves Running irons - branding irons with a point for drawing. Enabled one to alter a brand and were illegal in several states in the 1800s. Cow-pyrography - the art of writing on cows with fire, ie branding. Ian Tyson changed it to cowboyography which probably irritated Gail. Seago - short for seagoing rope used by many cowboys. Dallies - took his dallies too Thats what its called when you wrap the tail end of your rope around the horn of yer saddle.
